Asian Yogasana Sports Confederation

Yoga is a spiritual discipline that emphasizes harmony between the mind and body through a subtle scientific approach. It is both an art and science of living healthily. The word ‘Yoga’ comes from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj,’ meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to unite.’ According to Yogic texts, practicing Yoga unites individual consciousness with Universal Consciousness, symbolizing harmony between mind and body, as well as between humans and nature.

Modern scientists suggest that everything in the universe is a manifestation of the same quantum reality. Those who experience this unity of existence are considered to be in a state of yoga, known as a yogi, having attained liberation, also called mukti, nirvana, or moksha. Historical evidence of Yoga dates back to the pre-Vedic period (2700 B.C.) and continues through Patanjali’s time. Information about Yoga practices and literature from this era can be found in the Vedas, Upanishads, Smritis, Buddhist and Jain teachings, Panini’s works, Epics, and Puranas.

In contemporary times, yoga is widely recognized for its health benefits. It is often seen as a therapeutic or exercise system promoting health and fitness. The practice of yoga naturally leads to physical and mental well-being. Moreover, yoga helps individuals harmonize with the universe. It is not associated with any specific religion, belief system, or community; rather, it serves as a method for achieving inner well-being. Anyone can benefit from yoga, regardless of their faith, ethnicity, or culture, as long as they practice it with dedication.
